Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith have known eachother since childhood and the friendship wasn’t lost when they decided to be a band. On the contrary, that friendship was extended to an audience with whom they share the same references. After all, The XX is one of the coolest bands today, with influences that span from Aaliyahs’ R&B to alternative rock bands, like Pixies or The Cure. In 2009, the single “Crystalised” was well received by the public and the critics, and the homonymous record – released shortly after – had conquered a fan legion that’s to an irresistible sound, atmospheric and minimalist, soulful in each song. After lining up in some of the best festivals in the planet, the band is awarded a Mercury Prize for this debuting record. The second album, “Coexist”, arrives in 2012 with the singles “Angels” and “Chained” confirming the best expectations. 2017 was the year to return to records. “I See You” has everything that worked in the past and a bit more. An ecletic journey, that reaches a growing audience. Without losing the honesty in each verse, the band opens a dialogue with pop music and it is hard not to be dragged by the strength of songs like “Hold On” or “Replica”.
