Son Lux is the post-rock project of musician and composer Ryan Lott. He was the youngest of three brothers and spent his childhood moving around the US, from Colorado to California and Atlanta. There was something that was ever-present throughout: his interest in music. Jazz, pop, guitar and piano shaped his artistic identity together with dance, which also played an important role in his life. Soon he started to perform as Son Lux, his voice featuring over ethereal and nocturnal melodies, inspired in rhythms found in hip hop, rock and even electronic music. After taking part in the Festival of Faith & Music alongside names such as Emmylou Harris and Sufjan Stevens, the Son Lux project took off for Ryan. After four years in the making, he released his debut album, At War with Walls and Mazes, in 2008. The following albums, We Are Rising (2011) and Lanterns (2013), confirmed expectations about Son Lux’s ability to create dense and atmospheric compositions that linger in one’s memory. Following his first three albums what had been a solo artist became a three-piece band. Musicians Ian Chang and Rafiq Bhatia joined the project and co-wrote the fourth album, Bones, released in 2015. This audacious work reveals a band on the right path, a path of experimentation and risk-taking. The release of Brighter Wounds in 2018 shows a more personal work for Ryan,
influenced by the death of a friend and the birth of his son. Son Lux continue to express their originality to the world and Portugal is on their list next summer - July 17th on the Super Bock Super Rock EDP stage.
