Sofi Tukker’s success was anything but planned. Tucker Halpern had never considered working in the music industry as he had intended a career as a basketball player. Sophie Hawley-Weld was already secretly dreaming of a life devoted to music although she kept her expectations low. The duo resulted from a happy coincidence, when both met at an art festival at Brown University in the US. The connection was instant and they wouldn’t have to wait long before their first track went viral. “Drinkee” was streamed more than 20 million times on Spotify, thanks to an Apple ad, and was also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance Recording category. Sophie’s travels would contribute to the multicultural feel of Sofi Tukker’s music. A beautiful example of this can be found in the Portuguese lyrics of “Drinkee”, featuring verses from Rio de Janeiro poet, Chacal. Sofi Tukker work well under pressure and haven’t been overwhelmed by growing crowds at their concerts, critical acclaim – unanimous in recognising their quality – or the millions of YouTube views. Their DJ format is well known for their remixes of songs by big global artists like Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, and for always pushing the limits of dance music. Their energy guarantees to ignite the dancefloor at Super Bock Super Rock’s Somersby stage on 15th July.
