Jamie Smith, better known as Jamie xx, is a British musician, producer and DJ. He is well-known as part of the band The xx as well as for his solo live performances. In 2007 he founded The xx, together with school friends Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Baria Qureshi. Two years later, in August 2009, they released xx, their first album and one that would leave a mark in recent British music history. In 2010, Jamie xx caused quite a stir when he worked on a number of songs from Gil Scott-Heron’s album, I’m New Here. Singles “NY Is Killing Me” and “I’ll Take Care Of U” featured on British radio and also around Europe, attracting attention from both the audience and the critics thanks to Jamie xx’s creative vision. This work would result in the critically acclaimed album We’re New Here, even considered a masterpiece by some publications. His success brought collaborations with names such as Drake and Alicia Keys. The singles "Loud Places” and “Gosh” were released ahead of his first solo album. In Colour was released in 2015 with collaborations from Oliver Sim, Four Tet, Young Thug and Popcaan, amongst others, and was nominated for a Mercury Prize and a Grammy Award. Captivating anyone in search of sophisticated electronic music, it featured influences from trip hop and house music and looked to challenge the existing sound. In 2020 he released “Idontknow”, his first single in five years. Jamie xx continues his search for new ideas and he’ll bring some of his recent discoveries to Super Bock Super Rock’s Super Bock stage on 16th July.
