Cuca Monga, a label founded in 2014, is responsible for some of the most
interesting projects in recent Portuguese music. During the pandemic lockdown a
creative process took place remotely, bringing together 20 musicians and
collaborators of Cuca Monga (Luís Severo, some members of Capitão Fausto,
Ganso, Rapaz Ego, Zarco, amongst others). In under two months, this naturally spontaneous
process resulted in 10 songs, making up the album Cuca Vida, signed by
the so-called Conjunto Cuca Monga. Conceived as unpretentious fun during lockdown,
the album has a bit of everything in terms of genre, aesthetics and even wording.
At the same time, Cuca Vida transpires the friendship, laughter and
freedom that were part of the process of its creation. This is perhaps the
thread of the album: it’s not about being in lockdown, but rather, it’s open
and free. Conjunto Cuca Monga falls right into the spirit of SBSR as they get
together for their performance on the LG by Rádio SBSR.FM stage on 14th July.
