Capicua was born in the Portuguese city of Porto, in the 80s. She quickly discovered hip hop culture, first through graffiti and then through music. In the noughties she made the transition from listener to rapper apprentice. A Sociology graduate, Capicua creates conscious rap and is well known for her accomplished writing, which is emotive and politically-engaged. Her albums Capicua (2012), Sereia Louca (2014), Medusa (2015) and Madrepérola (2020) already have a place in recent Portuguese music history. Her intense concerts over the past decade have been well attended and have garnered acclaim by a diverse audience and by the critics too. She has thus helped break down the stigma associated to rap music in Portugal. A supporter of the collaborative spirit present in hip hop culture, Capicua has worked with Portuguese artists like Sérgio Godinho and Sara Tavares and as a lyricist for Gisela João, Aline Frazão, Ana Bacalhau, Camané and Clã. A year after the release of Madrepérola, the EP Encore arrived. It had been recorded live in 2020 at the Rivoli Theatre and Teatro Aveirense during the last concerts that took place that difficult year. The lack of a stage in the midst of the pandemic is countered by a celebration of live music that perpetuates joyful moments shared between the artist and her audience and allows the continuity that her latest work deserves. The reaffirmation of commitments and preparation of repertoire, new formation and settings take place now in readiness to hit the road again with renewed energy. The perfect opportunity to witness poetry transformed into music will arrive on 15th July 2022, on the Somersby Stage at Super Bock Super Rock.
