It may seem strange that in 2020, there’s still a group of young men interesting in making music, calling themselves a “boys band”. The term has fallen into disuse and today it may even be looked upon with some mistrust but when Brockhampton take over as such, their aim is precisely to challenge this concept and all the prejudices that remained from the 1990s. Thus, we can say that Brockhampton are Kevin Abstract’s “boys band”, the leader of this eclectic band - the diversity reflects on their rhythms, lyrics and message. The whole group is enough to create a football team - Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, Dom McLennon, Joba, Bearface, Romil Hemmani, Jabali Manwa, Kiko Merley and the designers Henock “HK” Sileshi and Roberto Ontenient, the photographer Ashlan Grey and their agent Jon Nunes. Catch your breath after this enumeration because you really need your breath to keep uo with Brockhampton’s contagious energy. This adventure began when Kevin Abstract wrote a post on KanyeLive forum (a Kanye West fan forum). He wanted to form a band. He received answers from 30 candidates and 3 years later, this band was already releasing their first EP. At the time, they were signing AliveSinceForever and only after did they agree on Brockhampton. Singles like “Bet I”, “Hero” or “Dirt” were the ones that started the buzz around them but nothing would have predicted what would be about to come. Their first album was released in 2017, “Saturation”, which would turn out to be the first album of a trilogy. Their productivity was impressive as well as their music and songs like “Gold”, “Sweet” or “Boggie” conquered the fans. R&B, rap and even alternative rock hand in hand with this amazing will to be the voice of a generation. Those three albums released in just one year didn’t slow them down - in 2018, they released “Iridescence” and 2019 was the year of “Ginger”, the band's last album (so far). Themes like "I Been Born Again" and "If You Pray Right" reveal the same energy as always, without fear of being alternative, while conquering the world. And also Portugal - on July 17th, at the Super Bock Super Bock Super Rock Stage.
